Remedial Exercise
Remedial exercise is one of the most important parts of veterinary physiotherapy, helping pets regain strength, mobility, balance, and confidence following injury, surgery, or illness. These exercises are specifically designed to address your pet's individual needs and are carefully progressed as they recover. Just as physiotherapy exercises are prescribed for people, targeted exercises can help improve your pet's movement, support healing, and reduce the risk of future injury.
A remedial exercise programme may include activities to improve muscle strength, joint flexibility, coordination, and body awareness. Depending on your pet's condition, exercises could involve controlled walking, weight-shifting activities, balance work, sit-to-stand exercises, or navigating different surfaces and obstacles. These exercises are designed to be safe, achievable, and enjoyable for your pet while promoting gradual improvements in function.
As part of your pet's treatment plan, I will demonstrate each exercise and provide guidance on how to perform them correctly at home. Consistency is key, and regular home exercises can significantly enhance the benefits of physiotherapy sessions. By working together, we can help your pet return to their normal activities, improve their quality of life, and maintain long-term mobility and wellbeing.
